I did the Honda recommended "flush." Bought enough to drain 3 quarts, and refill then drive for a bit then repeat two more times. After doing the initial drain and refill I felt a noticeable difference in the shifting of my 96 civic auto. 3 quarts left over for another drain and refill in about 10k miles.

It's always better to buy a case and have extra than to be a quart short when you need it. Just my $0.02.
